I've Learned From Experience.
I have had ADHD my entire life, and like many people over the age of 40, spent many years struggling to learn to work productively with the condition. I was trained as a standardized test teacher by Kaplan and have worked extensively in the field for over ten years.
In spite of my ADHD, I have always excelled at taking standardized test, even accomplishing the score of 800+ on the GRE verbal section--I didn’t even know there was such a score as 800+!
The truth is that while ADHD is a challenge in the classroom, it brings several distinct advantages when it comes to standardized testing, if students with the condition know how to properly utilize their abilities.
As a long-time standardized test instructor, I am familiar with many methods of taking these tests. Over the years, I have refined the strategy and the tactics that allow students with ADHD to reach their maximum possible score.
Of course, every student needs to take the test using techniques that are adapted to their own unique strengths, and as I get to know them, I will modify these techniques accordingly.
