Is there really an autism epidempic?

That there has been a massive increase in children with  autism is unquestionably true--but does this necessarily reflect an increase in the actual condition, or simply a change in the way it is diagnosed? And of course, this applies to ADHD as well. There is no question that there has been an explosion of ADHD diagnoses and prescriptions of ADHD drugs, but does that mean there really is an increase in the condition itself?
